The lettering describes only the profile view of the brain with nerves and does not apply directly to the view of the base of the brain, which appears in the original with its explanatory text on the facing page. The originals are two woodcut illustrations from book IV of the De humani corporis fabrica libri septem of Andreas Vesalius, published in Basel in 1543. The woodcut of the base of the brain appears on p. 318, with the profile view of the brain with nerves on p. 319 opposite. Duarum figurarum quae novem modò subsequentibus Capitibus communes censentur, altera, quae dextrum latus proponit integri cerebri ac cerebelli, et dictae in priori figura dorsalis medullae parties…
